Thank You 2016

As I reflect on this year, I am immensely thankful. Thankful for my health, family, friends and 30th birthday celebrations. This year was trying, exciting and full of unexpected adventures. I learned so much going full-time freelance and moving away from the 9-5. I learned so much about being a husband and small business owner. It was a wild year but I am thankful for each moment that brought me here.

With that said, I am excited to announce that I joined businesses like Patagonia by pledging one percent of sales to the preservation and restoration of the natural environment. 1% for the Planet is an alliance of businesses that understand the necessity of protecting the natural environment. They understand that profit and loss are directly linked to its health, and are concerned with the social and environmental impacts of industry.

If you're a business owner (or have any influence over your boss), please consider becoming a member of this socially and environmentally progressive group. By contributing one percent of total annual sales to grassroots environmental groups, members of 1% for the Planet affect real change. Members also receive other benefits: the satisfaction of paving the way for more corporate responsibility in the business community and the recognition, support and patronage of conscientious consumers who value serious commitment to the environment.

As you spend time with loved ones, opening presents, skiing waist deep pow or enjoying a fresh cup of coffee, I ask you to reflect on what you are grateful for this year. Share your gratitude and start the New Year asking yourself what you can do to make a difference.

Let's go 2017!

Denver hometown boy and the ultimate stoker Bobby Brown has released his own film today entitle "Be Water". Having worked in the industry at Smith and meeting Bobby, I can't be more stoked at this. The videography, the locations, the title cards, and everything about it is super legit. Even Petey getting some camera love for a quick double.

Do Bobby a favor and take a break, check out his film and get stoked for Old Man Winter to bring this pow this winter. Solid work my dude.

Tyler + Emma Sneak Peak

I had the pleasure of shooting our close friends wedding in Boulder and Longmont last month.

Tyler and Emma are spirited, laid-back and adventurous, and their wedding day reflected that. Family and friends cheered for them as they walked down the aisle and also cheered for the parents and grandparents who raised them both so well.

They celebrated their marriage with a string band, pizza and craft beer at the picturesque Ya Ya Farm and Orchard in Longmont, Colo. as the sun set behind Longs Peak.

It was a lovely celebration for two well loved people!

Goodness gracious.
Don't get me started.

Have you ever seen projects that stop you in your tracks? Seen presentations that leave you in amazement straight up drooling at the mouth? Agencies, people, and companies that put out quality projects over and over again...

Well these guys are all that and more. I have watched W&L put out projects such as View From A Blue Moon, Transworld Surf Redesign, Crosby Square and now this beauty of a brand approach, execution and delivery for Upton Belts. Being a big fan of finding inspiration to push yourself in your own craft, design approach and project presentation; do yourself a favor and look through their work. Try not to think of how many people they had working on these projects, the amount of money they probably made and all that nitty gritty jazz. Just focus on the beauty of the goods and put that in your back pocket and go be better.

As a wedding photographer and videographer it is awesome to get featured. You work so hard planning and capturing one of the most memorable, fun and sacred days of your life. You dance and laugh and cry and stand around amazed and humbled at the people surrounding you in support and love. You are constantly reminded of the best day of your life over and over again throughout life. I haven't had a wedding that I was involved in featured in a long time but Mags and I were humbled that Southern Weddings featured our own wedding.

Our wedding was truly the best day ever and the sickest party we have ever been too. Check out the amazing work from our photographer Gracie Blue who absolutely crushed it. And to all the others that made this day possible.

Thanks to all.
And thanks to you Butch!

Miss and love you.

You were in art school or communication arts survey and the professors talked about never designing logos more than 4 colors? How clients and brands will not have huge budgets for you to do letterpress, extra gloss printing and 600lb double weight awesomely thick stock?

Well that is all true. Sometimes. Every once in a while a client comes along with an amazing imagination, deep pockets and trust like every designer wants. They believe in the agency, the designer, the creative, the craft, the vision that is worked on for days, hours and weeks. They want the experts to do their jobs. They quite simply believe in the value of more money, better printing and amazing results.

These guys do it well. They get all the dream projects. The dream printing. The dream typography. These guys give me hope and they should inspire us to continue dreaming and pushing the boundaries of the expected.

Happy Monday, Happy February from snowy Denver.

Hello world.

Meet Fort Point Beer Co. The beer comes from us from San Fran. A place I have yet to visit but is most definitely on the list. To broaden their reach and bring their beers to the public, the brewer has launched a line of 12 oz cans and a new identity designed by local firm Manual. Let's just sit and appreciate the goodness of this launch. First off, Manual does great work. Beautiful clean work. Strategically driven effective work.

What I love about the Fort Point launch;
line art. color. a tasty chunky serif face.
attention to details on the negative spaces of the building illustrations.
the colorful and amazing color combos on the packaging.
the contrast and simplicity of the two color packaging on cardboard.

It is with great please Manual that I clap twice and proudly voted Great on the logo and Great on the packaging via Under Consideration.

Keep up the good work and hopefully I will see you guys in San Fran soon.

I have always been amazed by what web designers and coders and developers are able to do via a screen. The way they are able to tell shapes and colors and type to do things with commas and periods and semi-colons is straight up madness.

FWA announced their 2015 Site Of The Year and People's Choice Award Site and they are definitely worth a look. Be sure to have some time to play around with everything they have to offer. You can definitely tell that the creative team that worked on these puppies really had creative freedom. One of my favorite parts of the Because Recollection site is all of the interactive bells and whistles that are simple but amazing.

Take a look and Happy Inspiration Friday!
