Axon Voyager

Context
First responders train where they work, and that’s rarely near a training center. Axon founder and CEO Rick Smith saw an opportunity: bring the training to them. The Axon Voyager was built as the future of mobile training, a 53-foot trailer designed specifically for first responders, flexible enough to host hands-on product training, demos and customer experiences anywhere the road goes. The ask was simple and bold: “Let’s put three trailers on the road and see how they do.” That meant the trailers had to do more than carry equipment. They had to be rolling billboards for the Axon brand.

Approach
As Creative Director, I led the internal team from concept through fabrication. We started with a futuristic yet simple, NASA-inspired design direction, something that felt like the future of public safety while staying unmistakably ownable by Axon. Working alongside product designer Veronica De La Rosa and fabrication partner Pink Sparrow, we took the system from sketch to three full-scale 53-foot trailers. Senior designer Blake Ingolia helped carry the design beyond the trailer itself, into social, swag, print and on-site event executions, so the Voyager felt like one experience at every stop. The first-year trial became the Axon Roadshow, a highly memorable customer experience that delivered significant ROI, expanded Axon’s business pipeline and continues to grow the brand’s presence across the country.
